What the first few weeks look like
Starting therapy is often the hardest part. Here is exactly what happens, in order, so there are no surprises at the door.
01
Engagement
10 Minutes
No forms, no commitment. We talk about what's bringing you in and whether it's a good fit for both of us. Direct Call or Chat.
02
Initial Intake Session
55 Minutes
A longer first meeting to understand your history and set out what we're working toward together + Brief Psychological Assessment
03
Weekly Sessions
50 Minutes
Fifty minutes, same time each week where possible. We review progress. Six to eight sessions.
Areas of focus
Every client's reason for coming in is specific. These are the areas where I've built the deepest clinical experience.
Anxiety and panic
Working with racing thoughts, physical symptoms, and the avoidance that anxiety quietly builds around your life.
CBT, ACT
Life transitions
Career change, relocation, becoming a parent, or losing one support through the periods that reorganise everything.
CBT
Depression and Bipolar
Support for low mood, lost motivation, and the higher-energy swings of bipolar disorder, worked through alongside your psychiatrist where medication is part of the picture.
CBT
Schizophrenia or psychosis
Steady, ongoing support for managing symptoms and staying connected to daily life, working alongside your psychiatric team rather than in place of it.
CBT-p, Family Support
Relationships and behavioural Issues
Individual work on the patterns you bring into relationships; communication, trust, and boundary-setting.
CBT
Grief and loss
Space to grieve at your own pace, without a timeline imposed by the people around you.
Person Centered
Burnout and overwork
For people whose identity has become tangled up in their output, and who've stopped noticing the cost.
ACT
Marriage Counselling and Couples Therapy
Working with both partners in the room on communication, trust, and the conflicts that keep resurfacing no matter how many times you've had them.
Gottman, EFT
Shared with permission, lightly edited for length. Details are generalised to protect confidentiality.
“I’ve never spoken to anyone about my past before. Having said it, I don’t feel judged.”
Patient, reflecting on family patterns
“I’ve seen such a positive change in my child. He has become more accountable, and even the way he communicates has changed.”
Parent, - Child Behavioural Issues
“I didn’t realise how much psychological safety and emotional intelligence could impact my workplace.”
Employer, - Workplace Wellness
Before you reach out
The questions most people have before booking a first session.
Is anything I say confidential?
Yes, with the legal exceptions that apply to every registered psychologist: risk of serious harm to yourself or others, or a court order. I'll explain these clearly in our first session, and nothing leaves the room otherwise
Do you accept medical aid or insurance?
Most major Zimbabwean medical aid schemes are accepted (CIMAS, ALLIANCE HEALTH, FIRST MUTUAL HEALTH, FLIMAS, FBC HEALTH, CORPORATE 24) with a General Practitioner/ Specialist referral, and I can provide invoices formatted for international insurance claims. We'll confirm your specific cover before your first session.
What happens if I don't feel it's a fit?
You can say so at any point, including after the free call. I'd rather refer you to someone better suited than continue a fit that isn't working, that happens sometimes, and it isn't a failure on your part.
Can we meet online?
Yes. Most ongoing clients meet by secure video call after an initial in-person or video intake, whichever you prefer and whereever you are.
How soon can I be seen?
New enquiries typically hear back within 60 minutes, and a first call can usually be scheduled within 10 minutes.
Reach out, at your own pace
A short message is enough to start. There's no pressure to explain everything up front.
